Long Time No See: O.P.I. Who The Shrek Are You with lime green comparison

Oh, the title is so long. I hate when that happens. Who The Shrek Are You? is probably one of my favourite OPIs ever. I love the green. My BF hates it, but I love it, hehe. I saw the colour on a blog and immediately thought to myself "it's about damn time I wear it again!". Hence the Long Time No See label. As my stash is gettting bigger and bigger I'm starting to forget about the seriously cool and loved colours in it. Sad.

Since it's my kind of green I do have a couple that get close to it too, so I did a quick comparison for ya.

  • Index and pinky: O.P.I. Who The Shrek Are You?
  • Middle finger: Brucci Stephanie's Go Lime
  • Ring finger: Sinful Colors Innocent

As you all know, Who The Shrek Are You? is a part of O.P.I. Shrek Forever After Collection for Spring 2010, but I told you that once more anyway. What you probably don't know is, I'm a big Shrek fan. And that's because of Shrek himself. "Ogres are like onion." I love his grumpy yet loving attitude, you know. And, although it's almost a cliché now not to love clichés, I love the unusual heros in the stories. I hate blond princes who save the so-passive-it's-already-insulting ladies. Well, bond guys were never my type anyway. ;)
Ok, now that I've gone completely OT on you, how about a few info on polish? Shrek is a three coater for me, I cannot get rid of bold spots otherwise. It's insanely glossy and dries fast.

His cousins are not dupes, as you can see. Stephanie's Go Lime (what's with that name??) is much more yellow, and Innocent something in between. I love SGL better, since it's more different form WTSAY? (as you know I don't like having dupes) and also the forumula is much better than of Sinful Colors. While SGL needs three coats and Innocent only two, Innocent has the worst brush of them all.

I advise you two coats of base coat for this type of green, if you don't like your nails stained. Otherwise you'll have seriously yellow nails. I checked. -.-

What do you think about this kind of green? Too fugly for you? Did you get any colours from Shrek Forever After collection?

Long time no see: Essie - Angora Cardi

Another 'Long time no see' and it's Essie again. I picked it up from the shelf and I was surprised at how much I love the colour, I wanted to put it on my nails right away. I feel that because of Mint Candy Apple I forget how much I love Angora Cardi and don't give a chance to Essie. It's so easy to work with, it's almost funny.

 Softer light.

Just three pictures because when I put it on my computer I realized all look the same, even these three, with the one being in softer light, but all in all I kept the same position of hand and it seems pointless to show you 5 identical pictures.

Anyway, I really love this polish, I don't know why I neglect it so much. It's a two coater, application is really easy - which surprised me greatly, having the horror of MCA in my memory as Essie polish - and it dries super fast and glossy, I didn't put TC on at all and had a smudge free mani for a couple of days. It really got me thinking I must clear the WL of Essie a bit, Angora Cardi proves to me Essie can kick ass.

Today a short one, I don't feel particulary chatty. Still, I wanted to show you this beauty. Do you like it? What do you think about Essie as a brand?

Thank you for reading!

Happy Birthday, Eddie! manicure

Hello darlings! How are you doing? It's been a long day, I must tell you. Nothing major to complain about though. Sunny too! Hope you had a nice start of the week. Tomorrow is a national holiday here in Slovenia, in honour of our greatest poet, France Prešeren and we get a day off. He is a wonderful poet and I'm sure you can find translations of his poems, so if you like poetry, I really recommend his works.

But this is not a manicure for France (and I would do it to honour his birthday that is on December 3rd and not to celebrate his death, that is February 8th. Our government excuse for making such a ridiculous decision? Too many holidays on December already. Ha ha ha. Ha ha. Ha. Not.)

This is a manicure for one of my favourite stand-up comedians in the whole wide world. If you like stand-up you must have heard of him. Eddie Izzard, today celebrating his 49th birthday. Like I said, he's one of the funniest people I ever heard and I admire him greatly also for his life path in general and the choices he made. He seems like a very unique person, I'd love to have a cup of coffee with him one day. And this is the mani I did, in thought of him.

If you enlarge this one, you won't be sorry, I promise.

I used the wonderful Back To Black from Catrice as the main colour, for his sexier (to me!) side that I adore, he has the wonderful sence of humour, edginess and is a very complex person, so a plain black wouldn't work. The fantastic shimmer Back To Black has seemed perfect though, making the simple black stand out more. The index finger is for the rock star diva in him. The transvestite side of him, the awesome taste in clothes, make up and style he has, for all the entries in his shows, but particularly the one in Definite Article. I think Dorothy Who? from China Glaze is just to die for colour, one of the best I ever had the privilege to try on and the glitter and the colour seemed just perfect. I did a bit of scotch tape nail art, with inspiration, as ever, from Chloe's Nails and amazing Erika, wanting to make three thicker lines and two thinner, but sadly I ended the lines too soon on the finger, making the upper side completely uncovered. But then again, more Dorothy Who? is showing this way and I'm not complaining about that! I also love the spikes, if something, Eddie definitively is edgy and sharp. ;) :) This one goes also in my "Long Time No See" section, as I haven't have full mani with Back To Black in months.

Here's the best picture of him ever:

And the Definite Article style that is still one of my favourite on him. Looove the nails, eyeliner and lipstick. And say what you will, he rocks the suit!

And one of my favourite clips of his show Dress To Kill.

So yeah, I love the man. He's fantastic! Happy birthday, Eddie! *mwah*

What do you think of him, do you know any of his works? And about my mani I did for him?

Long time no see: Essie - Mint Candy Apple + Isadora Black Tag crackle

Hello lovelies! How are you doing? :) I'm just about to hit the books (well, my study books, I've been reading an awesome novel for half a day now), it's going to be a loooong night, but as I'm already here, let's show you a quick post of my mani from a few days ago and an idea for another "theme" on the blog. As you can see, I have a couple of them. The most frequent is NOTD, then it's 'my thoughts on', and 'nail polish (care) related' and I'm hoping others will get added as the blog grows. If you got any ideas, hit me! :)
The "Long time no see" hit me when I went through my shelf of polish, looking for freakish colours to put on. I was in the mood and my nails have now the optimum lenght for just about anything I want to get on them. And I found a couple of bottles that I haven't used ... I don't know, months, years even.

One of them is Essie's Mint Candy Apple. I think I put this one on just once or twice, right after I got it. And then it went into oblivion, as it seems. It's one of the rare colours  with which I actually pay attention on my nail lenght and what I'm wearing, when I have it on, because it's such an unusal colour for me and I presonally don't like it on my nails when they're longer. On the second day I put Isadora Black Tag on. It's not mine, a friend of mine lend it to me, to try it out, so I didn't play with it much, as I'm planing to do that with ChGs. :) Besides, with 6 ml of Isadora it seems like a crime to use someone else's polish thorugh 20 manicures, especially if that one isn't a nail polish junkie and owns about 5 polish bottles. ;) Thank you, Ärväthyyll! :*

Coats of crackle polish go from L to R: very thin coat, a bit thicker coat, an awesomly thick coat, and on my pinky first one very thin coat in the middle (not entire nail) and then veeeery quickly one thin over entire nail.

Essie's Mint Candy Apple is from Essies Winter Collection 2009 and it's one out of two Essies I own. Until 2010 collections I found Essie to be quite an average brand, with basically only two, three colours I'd acutally like to own. 2010 got some beauties, but spring collection for 2011 looks so freakishly boring from the bottle promo pics, I'm kinda disappointed.

I hate Mint Cand Apple's application. Hate it! It's like putting soft melted rubber on your nails, extremly chalky and I really can work with thicker polish like Catrice, but this is whole new level. So I wasn't terribly satisfied with the application. This was two coats, the second one was trying to save the application, not opacity, since I think this is pigmented enough to be one coater.
I still like the colour, it's very unusual, although I feel it doesn't like my skintone much. My hands looked kinda red or ashy, just not a very healthy colour.

The best reaction ever I got from my BF while wearing this. I must say I'm quite lucky and my BF take this obsession of mine very good, and I think he kinda likes that I'm taking care of my nails. Or at least likes it enough not to complain about it. He's also my strictes judge. When it comes to application especially, but also with the colours. The notes are quite simple:
"fajn" meaning "fine" = this colour/mani is very nice and I like it
"v redu" meaning "o..k"  = you can do better, although it's a good enough colour
*shrugh* = oh well ...
"ne vem" meaning "I don't know", said in muted voice = I don't like it

And then the Mint Candy Apple reaction. You know the sound you make when you take meat from the fridge, smell it and realize it's already gone bad? That's the sound I got when he looked at my nails. Followed by disbelieving shaking of his head, like, what the hell is that on your nails, woman. I laughed my head off, seriously, his expression was so priceless, I almost peed myself from laughter. So yeah. He really didn't like it, is a new note in our judging system. :D

Still, I like it. :) What do you think about Mint Candy Apple? And about new theme for the blog, are you interested in my oldies? :)
