First slovene fantasy & sci-fi convention Na meji nevidnega!

Hello guys! This is a post about an event I am really excited about, I'm going home to Ljubljana just to visit it. And my costume is nearly done as well. :) To all my girls in Slovenia and perhaps even in neighbour countries that love fantasy and science fiction: it will be an awesome one day event, I hope I'll see you all there! Na meji nevidnega will happen on 28th September, which is exactly two weeks from today!

Here is a link to the facebook page: [NA MEJI NEVIDNEGA], you can get all the information there, plus the official site: NAMEJINEVIDNEGA.SI, a neat page with all the needed information, including ways to get to the place where the convention will occur. It will happen in Ljubljana, in Dance studio Bolero on Dunajska 49, on the page you can find information on buses stopping nearby and also on parking space available nearby.

The masterminds behind the convention are working on it under official society KUD Šmaug and I am immensely proud to be able to say I know them and think of them as my dear friends, they are wonderful people and as far as I know, they will prepare a convention that will kick.ass!

My costume will represent Ulmiel, the way I imagined her and I am really happy I finally found the excuse to make the costume. So if you are planning to visit the convention, let me know, we can meet! Or you can look for the weirdest sea creature there, that will probably be me. ;) I hope I'll see you there!

China Glaze Stone Cold and trailer for one of the greatest projects I am a part of

Heya peeps. This is my 400th post! It sure doesn't feel like I've written 400 post on this blog, hehe. And I'll skip the apologies for my rare posting, because they seem pointless now, I do it in almost every post. Thing is, I have a major competition/work on my college. I waited for the news for quite a few weeks and now I know I'm in and it's going to be a lot of work, but in the end I hope it will be worth it, everyone that's been a part of it says it is. So I'll write when I can and I honestly don't think anyone will be in a bad place for it. ;)

I've shown you my packages in my last post and I've worn almost all China Glaze polish already. They. Are. Fantastic. Lord of the Rings, did China Glaze make an incredible Spring collection!! I can't really say which colour I wanted most, but Stone Cold was definitively near the top, a gorgeous black matte with silver particles, I adore this type of matte polish. It reminded me of the ManGlaze mattes that I dream of. Stone Cold is the perfect black matte for me and the hunt for that baby is over.

Two easy coats, application was awesome. A very strong colour in China Glaze The Hunger Games Capitol Colors collection (Spring 2012), at least for me, I'm a matte fan.

Now about the project I wanted to mention. As you all know, I'm a big Tolkien geek and a member of our Tolkien society. This summer, on our grand meeting we started a project that already grew and is still growing into something incredibly awesome. We filmed a short version of Tolkien's Hobbit. We're all eagerly waiting for PJ's Hobbit (first part), and as we were planning to film some sort of scenes from Tolkien's works, our director said 'hey, let's make a short Hobbit movie'. And we said, why not! Such a crazy bunch of people. I love them all to death. So this is in fact a parody of Hobbit, but a nice parody! I always think of bad fun making when I hear the word parody, The Epic Hobbit is not that. It's our way of showing how much we love Tolkien and his works and have an amazing time while doing that. :) So here it is, the trailer of The Epic Hobbit. :)

Did you get any colours from Capitol Colors collection? Are you looking forward to the Hobbit movie? PJ's or ours? ;)

Thank you for reading & have a great first week of October!

Happy Birthday, Professor!

Hey people! A short one today, I don't have much time. But it's a very special day today, John Ronald Reuel Tolkien would celebrate his 120th birthday today! As my regular readers have already noticed, Tolkien means a lot to me and I'm a complete fantasy geek.

We're celebrating his birthday today with our Tolkien Society, as every year, and of course I needed to do a mani just for my favourite Professor on the planet. I wanted something green again, but this year I wanted it to be mossy green. I planned to top it with mossy glitter, to bring in the extra bling, but to my great surprise China Glaze It's Alive is so opaque, it looks like I'm wearing it alone, not over Zoya Dree.

And these are REALLY thin coats of It's Alive! When I took a closer look I could see Dree peeking through, but apparently it's such a good base colour for It's Alive, it blends right in. Anyway ... this reminds me of mossy forest ground, with forest being a bit gloomy. I didn't want to take typical forest green, just to keep it more interesting. Plus, It's Alive is probably my favourite polish of this year. One of them, at least.

Anyway. Tolkien gave me so much with the world he created. Happy birthday, Professor! Wherever you are, hope you are well and happy.

Thank you for reading!

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky

Hey everyone. How are you doing today? Did many of you got two extra days off like we did in Slovenia? I have no idea how the holiday systems work in other countires. We had our Reformation Day on 31st of October and today it's All Saints Day, so our regular week starts tomorrow. Sadly I have one of those days that start well and then slowly but surely turn into crap. Since early afternoon it's been a giant pile of guilt, sadness, tears (that come with compulsory migraine) and general bad feeling. Not one of my best days. Even changing nail polish didn't help. So I decided I'll show you something I really like and makes me feel good. I already told you about two projects I was working on last week - one was the Nail Polish Blogger Challenge and the second I show today. I quite successfully combined my two favourite hobbies - nail polish and fantasy world.

As I already mentioned before, I'm a member of our Tolkien society and as every year we had an art competition this weekend. I was officially one of the organizers this year so I didn't compete, but since winning really isn't the point here, I of course made something for the competition, also because I loved this year's theme so much (Magical objects of Arda). I decided I'll try the nail polish jewellery thing and create the Three Rings of Elves
***

If you don't find fantasy/Middle-Earth/Tolkien works/reading interesting you may want to skip this paragraph. I skipped way too much data for my liking, and yet it remains a long one.

A bit of history behind the Rings of Power. Even if you know Lord of the Rings only by movies, you already know Rings of Power exist. All of them are combined into the most famous verse/poem in Tolkien's world:

Three Rings for Elven Kings Under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf Lords in Their Halls of Stone,
Nine for Mortal Man Doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne,
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the Darkness Bind them,
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie

The Rings of Elves are named Narya, Nenya and Vilya. They were the only three their creator, Celebrimbor, made alone, without Sauron's help (all Rings of Power were made with the help of Sauron, that back then could shift his form and decieved the high Elves of Eregion so they didn't recognise him and let him teach them the art of Ringmaking), and their power was in understanding, preserving and healing - hence the magical "islands" of Rivendell and Lothlórien. Since Sauron never got them, they couldn't make the bearer invisible, but they could be used as a weapon against their foe even if that wasn't their purpose.

Narya ('nar' means 'fire' in Quenya, the Elvish language) is the Ring of Fire. That's the Ring Gandalf is wearing as the last bearer. It's power is to resent the tyranny over the bearer and his despair. It's ring stone is ruby.

Nenya ('nen' means 'water') is the ring of Water. Throughout the history of the Ring Galadriel was the sole bearer of Nenya, she used it for keeping Lothlórien timeless and safe. It was made out of mithril, the ring stone is white diamond.

Vilya (the word means "air, sky") is the most powerful ring of the Three Rings. The last bearer of Vilya is Elrond. He used it for keeping Rivendell safe, like Galadriel did with Lothlórien. It was made out of gold, the ring stone is Sapphire.

The Three Rings leave Middle-Earth with their ring bearers, together with Frodo as the One Ring bearer. With the destruction of One Ring the power of the Three faded and they returned to Valinor.

***

Naturally I didn't remake the Three Rings. I couldn't even if I wanted to. I wanted to try to create them from what I have, wanted to show how I see their colours through the magical world of nail polish. ;) Sorry for loads of pictures, I like how my box turned out. *blush* Plus, flakie rings always need at least two photos. Right? Right?

The letter in the middle is Tengwar "C" for Celebrimbor (although I should write "K", as Tengwar is a phonetic writing *sigh*).

GOSH Holographic for Nenya. White Diamond sounded a bit boring.

Brucci Sapphire + Nfu Oh 52 for Vilya. My favourite!

Nail System 97 with Nfu Oh 49 for Narya. Probably my next mani combo.

If you want actual swatches:

Let's put some music in here too. My favourite song about Tolkien world ever. It's not for everyone taste, mind you, but I'm sure some of you will like it, and I honestly believe that if you like music, you have to like the melody . You'd be surprised how much Tolkien lore is used for metal! Summoning - The Legend Of The Master Ring

Making nail polish rings is fun! What do you think, did I do a good job for a first timer? :) I feel so much better after writing this down, yay!

Do you like nail polish rings? How about Lord of The Rings and fantasy in general?

Thank you for reading!

A special manicure for a special birthday

Hey everyone! How are you doing on this beautiful sunny day? Can you believe I managed to get shots of one Sparkle Nubar on the sun? ;) I slept for around 5 hours, it was after 4 a.m. when I was still staring at the clock. Awesome, eh? I have tons of work today, but that doesn't really matter, it's a beautiful day and tonight we're celebrating a birthday of my favourite writer in the whole wide world, John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (yes, I'm a fantasy nerd. I get the jokes of The Big Bang Theory guys and so on ;)). He was born on 3 January 1892 thus he'd be 119 today. He passed away on 2 September 1973 and left behind my favourite world that was ever created. Books are worlds on paper and he did the best one, at least in my opinion. Middle-earth, with ents, and Valar and elves and Silmarils and all the nature and ... million details of the world he so perfectly created.

I'm sure you all know who am I talking about. If nothing else, you probably saw Lord Of The Rings the movie series. Although I admire the work Jackson did with them, I dare say the real Middle-earth and the real perfection of the world hides in the books. So unless you're really not a fan of reading and/or fantasy, I think you should read Lord of the Rings. :) My personal favourite is probably Silmarillion, maybe also because it's quite a challenge to master all the stories and details of the book, I've read it a couple of times and I still can't recall half of the stuff going on there. And then there's Hobbit and Children of Húrin and History of Middle-earth for hardcore fans ... we're lucky his son, Christopher Tolkien is putting so much of his time and energy into publishing the stories that his father left behind.

But anyway, now that I've gone all geekish on you, here's the manicure I did today in thought of Tolkien and the world I love so much. When I think of Middle-earth, I think green. Forests and ents being one of my favourite creatures and the battle against nature-killing industry Tolkien describes really gets me thinking green. :) I wanted to combine the green with greenish blue of water, because Ulmo, master of water, is one of my loved ones of Middle-Earth, or creators of Arda, if you will. Yes, my nickname has a connection with him. :)

And so, after much thought I decided I'll put on one of my untrieds, Depend number 191 and combine it with Orly's Halley's Comet. I did some layering and this is what came out.

I did two sunlight shots, although they kinda kill the Halley's Comet effect. And yes, I know you're probably thinking 'learn some nail art, woman!', because this is the best I can do. And I will! This year I'm trying nail art and types of manicure, actually I already have an idea for one, now I only have to find time to try it out. :)

The manicure: Depend 191 in two coats, it's an amazing green, with silver flecks of shimmer that I couldn't capture. The brush on Depend really surprised me, it's awesome, so is the structure of polish, not too thick, not too runny. Really cool polish.
Then I played with Orly's Halley's Comet - one coat over Depend on middle finger, two over ring finger and on my little finger there is only Halley's Comet, three coats.
I put Seche Vite on top, just in case. :)

I love how this one turned out, I think my ring finger looks the best layered, really sea like colour, I'd say. :) Depend is a big surprise for me here. It's a great polish, I'm loving it!

And now I must go. :) A little song for you at the very end. One of my favourite bands, Blind Guardian. They did an entire album dedicated to Tolkien's Silmarillion. What's not to love? But here's a great mix of their Lord Of The Rings song, orchestral version. Enjoy. :)
