NOTD: Myrza envies the lemondrops

Heya everyone! Can I get an extra point for making up a silly name for this mani? :) As I showed you yesterday, I got a lovely package of nail polish. And when I got them out, I couldn't decide which one to put on first. So I just combined three of them, although I wanted the fourth one there too - the Kiwi one. The three I combined were Barielle Myrza's Meadow and Lemondrops plus Color Club Glitter Envy.

First, Barielle Myrza's Meadow. It was my lemming for years and finally I got it. And I was so happy to see it didn't disappoint. It is on my nails right now and I still love it. The shade of jade green is perfect and the scattered holo glitter is fine and on the subtle side once on the nails, it is a wonderful combination. Needs only two coats too. It was part of Barielle Spring 2010 Wildflower Collection. Now I am on the hunt for June Bug from the same collection.

Barielle Lemondrops is a perfect bright yellow creme. I searched for something like this a while now. For a yellow polish it is very easy to work with. It needs two coats on most of my nails, on the longest a third, but on shorties two will be enough. I love the brightness! It was part of Barielle Summer 2009 Collection. Apparently there was a re-release in Summer 2013, but judging by my bottle, it is from the older collection. :)

Last, Color Club Glitter Envy is really bright neonish green with holographic glitter in it that is quite dense. It applies easily in two coats, and it is somewhat gritty, but nothing too extreme. What was my biggest disappointment with this nail polish was that it chipped in like two days. And I mean major chipping, up to one third of my nail. It looked even worse since both Barielles still looked perfect right next to it. I will wear it again for sure to test it again, but ATM it is not my favourite nail polish. It was a part of Color Club Summer 2011 Starry Temptress Collection, in this one I love Otherworldly as well.

When Glitter Envy chipped so terribly I removed it and put Lemondrops on instead. I love this combo even more.

Barielle, man. I need more Barielle in my life. :) And I am already tempted to put water decals over Lemondrops.

What is on your nails today? Any particular Barielle shade you would recommend?

China Glaze - Trendsetter

Hey people! Why, my comeback isn't really working, eh? I had tons of work to do, not to mention I came home from Austria on Sunday, enjoying wonderful weekend with fellow Tolkien geeks. It was amazing, in short. ATM I'm waiting for my lunch to cook before I go back to the books, so I have a few minutes to spare.

Trendsetter is a typical ugly-but-beautiful colour, I think. I adore this type of colours for their uniqueness and strangeness, yes. I resent all the feces related comparison the colour is getting, I think Scrangie and Short'n Chic describe it perfectly: a dingy dijon mustard base with a bunch of avocado mixed in & an incredibly elegant swampy green with really lovely golden shimmer.

I'm far from being a purist, but toilet humour is really not my thing and I can't imagine how you can wear something that reminds you of something gross. But that's just me, I guess. This colour reminds me a lot of swamp and its murky colours, I love it. Plus the shimmer is amazing. Most of people around me hate it though. My mother and BF were even more worried about my colour choice than usual. ;) A couple of friends said it was interesting ... but still ugly, hehehe.

The last picture is sooo old. It's taken when I wore Trendsetter for the first time and on blogsphere Trendsetter reminded some people on Classic Camel, so I took a shot that's by now probably irrelevant. Still. :) I can't pull off Classic Camel, it looks horrible on my skin tone, but Trendsetter I love. It was a part of China Glaze Metro Collection for Fall 2011 and it's the only colour I got, it's not a strong collection for my taste. Trendsetter is amazing gem in it though.

Do you like "ugly" colours in general? Which one is your favourite?

*due to me thinking fugly means something completely different, I used the expression and now changed it :P Thanks, Chaosophia!

Essence Love & Peace and Purple feels so good!

Hey people. I'm having the headache of the Summer, so no smart words of wisdom today. It's the last Essence I'll show you in this long Essence phase, because Into The Dark went very funny on me yesterday and I need to see if I'm right about the top coat being the guilty one for that. So my Essence folder is almost empty and I'll finish it with the topper play. Re-mix your style was a LE everyone went absolutely nuts about. Flakies were in it, so yeah. I got 3 toppers out of 4 and I gave away all of them. Figures. Flakies made their year, so I have tons of them now, and the rest ... well,  I guess I got caught up in the LE hype with this one, bad Ulmiel!

Actually Essence LOVE top coat or Feels So Good, as it's called, is a great, great one. Funny, Essence claims holographic on so many things that aren't holographic at all. And then they make this amazing duochrome topper and they name it 'rose shimmer'. Lol. If I hadn't seen this one at Nihrida's, I'd never have bought it. But I did and then layered it over Essence Love, Peace & Purple. Put the stupid name aside, this purple is amazing. Dupe of one of Chanel's, Perplex I think, and many others and I love it. I've shown it in a post separately here. And here it is layered:

On the sun it looks like rose shimmer only, so I guess Essence was right to some degree. Sun kills duochromes.
This is only one coat of Feels So Good and they make a perfect pair with Love, Peace & Purple. I liked this one a lot.

And now I must go, prepare lunch, hope my head does not explode, you know, the usual Sunday. ;) Did you get any toppers and colours from Re-mix Your Style LE?

Misa - Hot Couture

Hey people! On my previous post the first comment was about Misa Hot Couture and I realized I haven't shown you this beauty before. BTW, the commentator, as I discovered after clicking her nickname, has an amazing set of nails and amazing set of photos on her blog, The Scholarly Nail. New blog to me, but I fell in love with it yesterday, I recommend checking it out. :)

So, Misa Hot Couture. One of those polishes I get in Kris' packages that surprise me, thinking it's not really a me colour and then I put it on and it's 100% love (also one of the reasons why I call her the expert on "my colours"). But I was immediately drawn to Hot Couture. It's such an unusual colour, I couldn't wait to try it on. It looks amazing on the nails. It feels like a yellowish nude, being yellow enough not to bore me. It reminds me of Winnie the Pooh and cosequently of honey and that's why I love this polish even more. Major, major win, Misa.

Hot Couture is a part of Misa Runway collection. I have no idea when it was released, but it's an older one. The Polish Addict says in 2008 that it was released several seasons ago. I didn't even know it existed before I got Hot Couture. Other colours in the collection are classy, but I wouldn't buy them, we've seen too many of those shades already, but Hot Couture is a winner.
It's a two coater, the application was good, I didn't have any troubles with the polish. I understand this is one of those colours people either love or hate. I adore fugly colours with a bit of edge so it's a great discovery for me.

How are you with fugly colours? A fan, or do you get, like a lot of people all kinds of more or less repulsive assotiations with the colours?

Thank you for reading, have a great Sunday evening!

Seaweed on Adventure Island of Sin

Wow, that "of Sin" really puts the drama into the title, doesn't it? Well, as you probably know already, it's just a play of the boring title that would be "Sinful Colors Seaweed and Adventure Island with scotch tape accent mani" although it basically covers everything I want to show you in this post.

I have no idea what's up with Sinful Colors and O.P.I., but as it seems, Sinful will be the cheap way to get some O.P.I. from now on. Not that I'm complaining, I like Sinful, plus it's really cheaper. Of course we don't have it in EU, but they're a great brand to swap for, ladies.
Anyway. When O.P.I. came out with Stranger Tides collection I was expecting a lot. I love pirates, and I love POTC - at least first two movies. I won't bore you with another rant over a relatively old collection, but pastels didn't go well at all with the theme, IMO. And when I finally saw the fourth movie (Stranger Tides, obviously) I was so disappointed, it's such a lame story. The only thing worth seeing in it is of course Johnny Depp and that's it. Oh, and Geoffrey Rush! My love and affection for Mr. Depp runs deep for years now. I watched most of his films, when I went through his filmography sistematically back in high school. I still have few on the list, but all in all I can easily say he's my favourite actor of all time. Yes, he's probably the sexiest man that I ever saw on the screen (for my taste at least), but not only that - he's a superb actor too, which is by far more important for a good movie, i'd say. ;) I love so many of his movies. I know he got really, "commercially", famous with POTC, but I love his older, "weirder" movies so much more. I do recommend them!

Oh wait, what was I sayin ... Nail polish! Yes! *shakes head* You can tell I'm getting down with a cold, can't you? From Stranger Tides collection Stranger Tides polish was the one that caught my eye and I asked Kris for it or the duplicate from Sinful, when it got out in their Adventure Island collection for Spring/Summer 2011. She got it for me, and sent me Adventure Island too (that one doesn't have a dupe in OPI collection). I did a bit of scotch tape design with them too, because they looked so good together on my desk. Nothing major, since I seriously lacked time back then. But I like it.

I really like how this picture turned out. :)

I was surprised by how much I loved Adventure Island. Don't know why I didn't think I would when I looked at the swatches, it's yellow and green and I like both colours. Well, I love it. It's a cool, unusual colour and I don't have anything like it in my stash. It applies a bit tricky (must be the yellowness of it) but will cover up nicely in three coats. It shows more yellow on my nails, but you can't deny the greeness of it too. Cool! The scotch tape was a poor attempt of doing one of the Nailside lightning bolts but I couldn't remember how to do it from the top of my head and I didn't have time to start the computer, so I ended up with something simpler. It looks like a shark in the water, so maybe it goes well with the colleciton theme too. ;)

And the Seaweed alone.

I totally love this one. I really really do. Two to three coats, depends on the nail, formula is ok, but the colour is awesome!

I think I'll go and make myself a cup of tea and try again to breathe through my nose. That should be an adventure too.

Thoughts on these two?

American Apparel - Butter

Hey people! How are you doing? It's my first day of studying ... and I'm almost two weeks late with it. Oh well. No rest for the wicked. Before I start with Butter, I just need to express my awe, lust and amazement with Lacquerized latest post on Nfu Oh 51. Those photos are unbelievably perfect, it makes me wear 51 right away. *dreamy sigh* I'm so happy she's back. :)

OK! Butter. I got it in a lovely giveaway from the super nice Holly from shimmerspark.com and at first I was sceptical about it. It was before my revelation that yellow actually rocks on nails. When I saw the bottle I was immediately drawn to the colour, it looks so soft and fluffy, it's not a stark in-your-face-yellow. It really resembles the colour of butter.

The lightbox draws almost too much yellow from it, but still it's a soft yellow, that applies very nicely. The last picture I'm almost nervous about showing. :) I have never done this type of picture, but I felt like the regular bottle holding pictures make the colour too much in your face. It's not. It's still a yellow, so noticable, but it's not My Yellow Fellow or that sort of yellows.
My mother almost collapsed when she saw the colour on my nails. She looked at me with that expression of sincere surprise with the fact I'm really going out into public wiht this on my nails. It was quite adorable, actually. :) I wasn't sure I'd like it either, but it really grew on me.

This was three coats, my nails were so long at this point ... I miss them, I love the look of them here. Butter dries very fast and really glossy, this is without TC. For a yellow it applies like a dream. Very nice application. I like the brush too.

So yeah, it's a very awesome polish, don't skip it on your American Apparel hunt. :) I wouldn't get it for myself alone, so I'm really lucky I won it. :)

What do you think? Is yellow still not your colour? Are you following the trends for this summer of yellow or do you prefer your other colours?

Essence - My Yellow Fellow + p2 crackle

Evening everyone! Hope you had a nice weekend! I had to study my butt off, but I was with my BF, away from all computers, TVs and so on, so I actually studied more than ever, with more pleasant surroundings and a very nice company that even cooked for me. :) Now I'm back, and I feel like chatting about polish.

This one is older, my nails grew quite long and snaped back to this lenght in all this time. I haven't picked this one up for me, but then tried it at home and loved it so now it's mine (with the premission of the nail polish junkie that ordered it from me, of course ;)). Me, liking yellow? Yes! I guess there are no limits now anymore! The application was less than nice, but from what I've read on other blogs, yellow doesn't get on the nail easily in principle.

Later on I put the black crackle on, getting the ultimate contrasting combination. I've already shown you this one before, now with TC over  p2 Black Explosion and without.

My Yellow Fellow needed fout coats to even up at least a bit and still on some fingers it was an utter disgrace. I love the brush on Blossoms etc. LE, it's flat and wide but it didn't help with this little diva. It just wouldn't even up on the nails. Oh well. Can't say I didn't expect some sort of troubles, since a well-behaved yellow is a constant lemming of yellow-polish lovers.
Still, surprisingly I looooved the colour on me! It is so damn bright, but I still loved it! Very springy, perhaps that's why. :) It's probably not a colour I'd feel like wearing very often, but when I wore it this time, I felt awesome wearing it. :) One regret though - the awesome shimmer that the bottle promises is visible on the nail only on direct sunlight, as my 'off direct sunlight' photos show.

One coat of p2 Black Explosion crackle polish over, a day later, I think. I like how p2 crackles, luckily I don't have the need to buy Black Shatter from OPI. :)

What do you think about My Yellow Fellow and the combination? Did you get any of the colours from Blossoms etc. LE?

Breaking the rules

Heeey darlings! I miss you just so effing much I'm breaking my own rules and typing this away to say 'hi'. Welcome, new people, and thank you all for such lovely comments you've been sending me, I love reading them, they really make my day. I honestly didn't think I'd miss blogging so much. I mean, don't get me wrong, I have great fun blogging, reading other blogs, interacting with you lovely people, but that I'll miss it this much? I didn't think I would.

I'm still very diligently taking pictures of my manis, of course buying polish (although I'm still officially on no-buy, hah) and just thinking about what I'll write on the blog once I'll have the time. I already have two themes, one is already promised Eveline Holografic Shine week, the other, thanks to my wonderful nail polish guru Tevta that bought me the polish on her trip to Italy, a Kiko week. Preview pics!

With Kikos I'm making some comparisons too and the white one seems like a very good substitute for competely sold out White Cap that I crave. :) Yay!

Oh, just to let you know - new Essence and Catrice polishes will be down to a minimum here at DSSNP. Why? Not because I wouldn't want them, because some colours just effing ROCK, but because I'm, like mentioned before, supposedly on a no-buy deal with myself ... no-buy deal kinda looks like the new Kikos I got, 4 packages I'm currently expecting, around 5 polishes bought on my way home in the last two weeks and one third of my stash still untried. So not really a no-buy deal, wouldn't you say? Well, unless you're like me in a very strong denial and don't count swapping as buying nail polish. Because I buy it for someone else, right? Right? Right?? AND every nail polish junkie knows that you just *have* to buy LE polish, if you like the colour. Because it's LE, it won't be there anymore few months later! *sigh* There is no end for me. I'm getting the dragon laying on its heap of polish mental picture here again ..:)

Seriously though, the only thing that bugs me (because I love swapping and buying nail polish, so I don't really have a bad conscience here, I just pretend to have it) is my heap of untrieds. That I'd really like to go through by the end of study period. Right now I'm changing colours almost every day, it's such a nice break from studying, polish remover fumes mixed with B3F fumes, aaah ...

So as you can see, I'm alive, studying as much as I can and totally not forgetting about nail polish or you! And here is a manicure for Nail crazy, because she made me smile on a very bad day with her comment saying she's missing my nails. :) Picture holds a certain milestone for me too - I wore yellow for the first time. And I effing loved it. Yellow is on!

Essence Yellow Fellow with p2 Black Explosion crackle. Is it just me or something is wrong with blogger pics? It looks sharp on my computer, but here it's somewhat blurry ...

Untill next time, keep your fingers crossed for me, big exams next week!

Comparison: SpaRitual Optical Illusion vs. Orly It's Not Rocket Science

Hey again. I'll post one of the comparisons today anyway. Before I do that, I want to tell you we're done with our poll polishes! I forgot to mention that in previous post. Teal Glitter and Regal remained, but both got 0 votes, Regal went to north Europe for higher purposes and I felt like wearing other Project Lativa polishes before Teal, so I guess you were right. ;) I'll wear it later on. Thank you for helping me out, now it's easier to figure out the rest of polish order. I'll probably do Bermuda Breakway and Sinful with Midnight Blue Glitter, since those two have been getting love from you, and I'm not sure, whether to start trying out the Kinetics I have or SpaRituals? What would you prefer? I have 5 SpaRituals left (not including Days Of Wine And Roses and Optical Illusion) and 3 Kinetics ... well, it's not too big of a number, I'll see what I'm feeling like wearing. :) But to the comparison!

It's Optical Illusion from SpaRitual's Kaleidoscope Collection from this years spring and It's Not Rocket Science from this years Orly's Cosmic FX Collection and they're known to be dupes of each other. So I was a bit surprised when I applied them on my nails and realized, they're are not really. Not 100%.

As you can see, OI is a few shades darker and it also doesn't have so much glitter as INRS.

What it does have is intenser duochrome effect that the bottles are promising.

 Another one with duochrome effect.

A bad close-up, I know, still, it shows the darker side of SpaRitual and more obvious duochrome.

The sparkle check photo.

I don't know about you but in my book they are not dupes. Are very close and very similar, but not 100% dupes. SpaRitual Optical Illusion is darker, and the duochrome effect tends to show every once in a million, with It's Not Rocket Science it doesn't show at all. Not that it does often with Optical Illusion, I think it would be safest to say duochrome is not visible on the nails, unless you're really lucky and hit the perfect combination of angle, lighting and good will of the polish.
Both were 4 coats, especially Optical Illusion gave me hard time with eveness of the polish. Orly was just sheer. Both dried kinda slow, Orly even smudged a bit on my pinky. The brush prize goes to Orly, but all in all I prefer the Optical Illusion look. Although it's not my colour at all. To mustard-yellowish-goldish like.

What do you think? Are they dupes in your dictionary?

Thanks for reading!
